Miamisburg, OH - The City of Miamisburg is a provider of water and sewer services to nearly 20,000 residents. Residents, businesses, and visitors all rely on the dedication of the men and women of the Miamisburg Public Works Department to keep the area thriving through its utility services.
Like so many municipalities, the City of Miamisburg has an aging infrastructure of valves that had not been exercised in decades. After researching their options, the city ultimately chose Hydra- Stop’s Insta-Valve 250 insertion valve as part of a preventative maintenance project, which initially started with lines under 10 inches.
Then, during January 2019, the city suffered a break on their 12-inch transmission main that caused the loss of service to nearly 18 percent of their customers.
By Autumn of 2019 the city had put in several Insta-Valve 250 insertion valves of varying sizes. However, it was their early October installations of two 12-inch Insta-Valve 250s that would truly prove the reliability, strength, quality, and value of this solution.
The two valves were installed on the same transmission main that suffered a break in January — a main that runs along King Richard Parkway, an arterial road within Miamisburg. Without disrupting service to any customers, both installations were completed within a regular 8-hour workday, which included back filling the excavations.
Just weeks after the two 12-inch Insta-Valves were installed, the same main suffered another break. However, thanks to the city’s preventative measures and newly installed insertion valves, the city was able to control the flow of water and minimize disruption to only 12 homes, as opposed to 1,400.
The Insta-Valve 250 insertion valve provided targeted control during emergency maintenance which minimized service disruption.
Every Insta-Valve 250 that has been installed remains a permanent, reusable asset for Miamisburg.
The City of Miamisburg avoided widespread shutdown and the costs associated with shutdown, including boil orders, loss of treated water and lab testing fees.
